I need a rule reference please.

I found a computer here and wanted a quick reference from you pros.

Situation:
Player A1 is dribbling the ball...his momentum takes him OOB without the ball...he establishes himself on the court and retrieves the ball again.

Would like a quick rule reference to show this play is legal.

Situation 2:
Players run around opponents side of the court during pre-game warm-ups...T for unsportsmanlike conduct...is this charged indirectly to a Head Coach such as a dunk in warm-ups is...thus giving him the seatbelt for the game?

Thanks in advance.

Not legal. Player is out of bounds.
Rule 9-3
Note: The dribbler has committed a violation if he/she steps on or outside a boundary, even though he/she is not touching the ball while he/she is out of bounds.

1)Case book plays 7.1.1SitB&C are probably close enough. Of course, A1 has to have lost control of the ball(interrupted dribble) before going OOB. If it's during a dribble that doesn't have a loss of control, it's illegal as soon as he touches the dribble.

2) From POE #3 in the 2002-03 rulebook- <i>"The specific inappropriate actions of a few team members may be individually penalized or the entire team may be assessed one technical foul, if they collectively engage in any inappropriate behavior(s). Since all team members are considered bench personnel before the game and during intermissions, the head coach would also be charged indirectly with the technical foul(10-4-1d:2-8-1).</i>

The case book plays refer to a defensive player who blocks the ball, goes out of bounds and then comes back on the court and picks up the ball. The situation described here is a dribbler who goes OOB. This can only be a violation.

No, the Case Book does not refer to a defensive player. A1 is always an offensive player. In the play RookieDude refers to, if an interrupted dribble occurs, the play is legal. Since there is no player control during an ID, it's legal for the player to return inbounds and regain possession.

If the team is coming onto the floor and circle the opponent once, I would keep an eye on it, but I won't say a word at that point, unless there's some "chatting" on the lap.

Only if his dribble continues uninterupted. If he loses control of the dribble before stepping out of bounds. It's not a violation. If you don't think his dribble has become "interrupted," then it's a violation as soon as his foot hits the line.

[/QUOTE]It's a violation if it occurs during an interrupted dribble? Got a rules citation to back that one up?

Thanks JR...yes the dribble was interrupted...I should have been clearer on that since BayStateRef thought differently than what I meant. :)

Also, the team that received the T in warm-ups would have one foul toward the bonus...correct?

Thanks again JR.
