I'm curious........ about IAABO Boards.

I'm wondering how many officials that post on this forum are members of IAABO (International Association of Approved Basketball Officials)?

I'm also interested in how many officials never heard of the organization.

Just asking! Thanks for your response.

I'd never heard of it until shortly after I started posting on this board. IAABO means nothing in central Iowa.

I just looked in our rules book. Apparently IAABO means nothing in all of Iowa. There isn't a board in the entire state. IAABO Boards are in 32 of the states (quick count), Bermuda, Canada, Germany, Guam, Japan, Korea, and the United Kingdom. Thanks Snaqwells!

IAABO? You mean "I Am A Blind Official"?

I would have assumed as much, since if they were in Iowa, I'd expect them to be in Des Moines. Just didn't know for sure.

I am an IAABO member. I joined with Board 11 in Delaware. I am now an independent member in VA, since my local association is not a member; although VA does have a number of Boards.

Hamilton (Board 112) fairly large
Kitchener-Waterloo (Board 210) small
Niagra (Board 192) medium
Ottawa Valley (Board 232) fairly large
Peel Regional (Board 222) small
Peterborough (Board 104) small
Thunder Bay (Board 100) small
Windsor and District (Board 207) small
Toronto (Board 107) large

ChiliBob, there are only two small boards in CA

Northern (Board 228) which covers primarily the San Fran area
and the Vandenberg District (184) which covers Santa Barbara and Santa Luis Obispo Counties

New Hampshire

As far as I know, all high school officials in New Hampshire are IAABO affiliated.

South GA BBall Ref Wed Feb 23, 2005 10:10pm

I'm a member in GA. Two years previously, it was mandated in GA to work in the public school arena and was made only voluntary this season. I have retained membership as well as about 1/3 of our association. The insurance benefits are what kept our officials wanting to remain. Headed to work the Sectionals of our State Tourney!
