After my game tonight I am convinced that it is time for the NFHS to allow the shot clock as a state adoption.

In the girls regional semi-final tonight the visitors fell behind 9-2 in the first quarter. Therefore, they held the ball for about two minutes on their next possession. I wouldn't have minded if they were running an offense, passing it around the perimeter, or even dribbling! However, one girl simply held the ball at the top of the key and no other player even moved. The defense stayed well back.
As if that wasn't enough, this team did the same thing to end the third quarter for OVER FIVE minutes. One girl simply held the ball out high and we all just stood there. They were trailing 23-17 at the time. They then made a layin at the buzzer to cut the deficit to four. The opposing team actually didn't even score in that quarter.

While I understood the coaching strategy (The visitors were overmatched in talent and this was the only way to keep it close and have a chance to win.), it made for some rather boring moments out there.

The visitors did manage to tie the game at 23 before losing 32-26.

I'm now firmly in the yes column for the HS shot clock.

I was thinking about Milan HS vs. Muncie Central during the wait.

That is the reason I am not in favor of a shot clock. It does give a less talented team an opportunity to keep the game close. By rule, the defense can come out at any time to establish a closely guarded situation, and initiate 5 second counts, and they chose not to.

Frank, that was my thought too. We do use a shot clock in MA, and I have no problem with having it as a state adoption. But there's a real easy solution to one team holding the ball. If the strong team didn't want the weak team to hold the ball, then then could've just come out and played defense.

Sounds like the problem right there. In other words, what Frank and Chuck said! :)

Sounds like a good game to ref, no work needed, easy money. ;)
