Quick question:

Player receives pass. Does not dribble. Jumps as if to shoot. Before returning to the ground, begins his dribble. Ball hits floor before his feet return to floor. Continues dribbling.

Up and down?

Travel - see 4-43. You didn't say whether or not he had established a pivot foot, but in this case it shouldn't matter since both feet were lifted before he began the dribble.

Tim,

Thank you for the prompt answer.

Do you refer to 4-43(2)? With respect to the player's location, if he returned to the floor in the same spot from which he jumped, he would not change location.

He then would not be changing locations during a dribble... no?

I am new to the postings, but you guys really seem to have it down.

Best.

4-43-3-c The pivot foot may not be lifted before the ball is released, to start a dribble.

Since both feet are lifted when jumping, by default one of them was the pivot foot.
