Years ago, I was working a freshman game where a young man for the home team threw one in from about 70 ft. as time expired in the first half. I had the horn before the release and called it that way decisively long before the ball went in. Here's some details, though, that made it interesting:
1) Game was at my alma mater, and I lived in town at that time.........AD was my dad, coach was my former geometry teacher and a man I had played a considerable amount of golf with.
2)Game tape was taken to local TV station, with the shot played several times during the sports on late news. They made sure to note that "the shot went for naught because the ref disallowed it!"
3) The tape was then watched at the school the next day by coach, players, and others including my dad. After viewing repeatedly, they could not determine with certainty whether my call was correct or not....it was that close.
