HS girls freshman game. one team yells "BALL BALL BALL" the whole time on defense.--Not just on the oob play. Very annoying especially as it was all 5 players. The closer the ball got to the hoop the louder they yelled. Fortunately the girls started to get tired and by the 2nd half only 2 or 3 were doing this.

And that's all it is, annoying. Otherwise, there's nothing illegal about it.
|
Aside from annoying, it's also stupid for the reason you mentioned. They get tired, and talking (yelling) hastens that process considerably during a game.
|
What on earth is the point to this annoying ritual?
|
defensive communication; but some of them take it beyond that and it becomes annoying.

The worst part of that is...
Now, I am getting boys doing it. They sound like sissies too.

I've never seen boys do this. I thought this was strictly a chick thing -- like contorting your body into all kinds of weird stances at the free throw lane spaces.

Better than girls playing softball. They sing/chant the ENTIRE game.

I reffed the same team last night. This time some of the girls on the bench started to do it as well. One particularly loud. First trip down the court shot goes up and I, at the C, am right in front of their bench. Some girl right behind me screams "shot!" in a high pitch voice. Hurt my ears. After the ball goes in I turn around and looked at the bench with a bewildered "What the heck was that look?" The bench giggled but did it again next time. Game continues for some time without any foul calls or rotations leaving me in the C most of the quarter.
I spent the rest of the game trying to initiate rotations to keep me away from the bench side of the gym. |
