I am T administering a throwin to A1 on the sideline. Team B is pressing. A2 leans over the sideline to avoid defender, A1 passes it where A2 catches the ball on the OOB side of the sideline. After he begins to dribble, I blow the play dead for some reason. Then it hits me, throwin violation. Looked weird as he!!

Question is, say B2 reached across and knocked ball away or grabbed it, would it still be a throwin violation on A since it was never legally thrown directly onto the playing court?

sounds like you have it right

These always seem clear when written, but look very weird on the court. I find these calls hard to make. We are already counting, watching for fouls, watching for the defender to stay behind the line, and ready to chop in the time. No wonder it took you a second to process the play! You knew it was wrong, but it took a little time for it to hit you WHAT was wrong about it.

You got it correct.

I'd say it would take a brass pair to call the violation on A if B contacted the pass on the OOB side of the plane, then again, it takes a pair to make the call you did too.:D

What type of reaction did your call get?

LOL But would it be the correct call?

Actually BZ, the teams and crowd were in agreement. It was my P who had that deer in the headlights look. After the game we talked and he was in agreement.
