NCAA D3 game. Player A1 is in the front court. He passes the ball to A2 but the pass goes astray and goes toward the backcourt. Player A2 jumps from the frontcourt and while still in the air, bats the ball back to the front court. As he bats the ball. airborne over the backcourt, he also calls for a timeout. I grant it but then question my call as he didn't really have possession. I'm thinking I should have ignored the request and, since the ball returned to the front court, played on. What do you think?
