"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." -- Martin Luther King, Jr. in "Letter from a Birmingham Jail"

As we enter a weekend where we are even more intentional in our commemoration of the life and legacy of Dr. King, I am thinking of the above quote. It was the verdict in the Peter Vukovich case (the referee assault case) that caused me to think about it, but I am most interested in the reminder that it gives to *me* to be a person committed to justice.

Happy officiating, everyone.

Thanks for this. Martin Luther King is one of my heroes, and his wife is no less remarkable a person. She took as many bombs, threats and physical assaults as he did, and she did it for the same reasons, and with the same passion for justice and the Kingdom of God. I don't want to start a religious thread here, but religion did play a big role in motivating and empowering both Kings. They were people who changed the world for the better, and although they each had faults, their strengths were massive and immutable. They deserve to be commemorated with a holiday.
