Last night boys 9th grade. Massive substitutions all night long.

Dead ball out of bounds late in game 7 subs come in, 4 home and 3 visitor.

Following the rules the speaking captain politly asked me for the opportunity to have a line up. I recalled that 3 or more substitutes qualified, the ball was dead - so we were going to "line up".

Anyone recommend or know of a proper mechanic for the line up? Where? Jump circle? Half court set?

I had the players quickly line up parallel to one another and they kinda pointed - I got him, you take him thing ensued.

Advise.

If they can do it where they're standing, fine. If not, line them up at the closest circle- center or free throw.

Typically when I have to deal with multiple substitutions and the ensuing 'match-up' request I tell the players..."Ok, everybody take a moment to match-up with someone".

This all happens where there are standing at the time, I do not bring everyone to the center circle and I do not let this procedure linger, perhaps 10 seconds is all that is needed. Get the game moving and try to keep it flowing.

I have yet to see anyone make an issue out of this. I guess I am lucky. I just make sure I take my time and there has never been a problem so far. Nothing can happen until we are ready to go anyway.

Peace
