A1 is trapped by B1 and B2 near the endline. The following three things happen quickly one after another.

1. I head coach A asks for a timeout.
2. Partner blows his whistle signalling that A1 stepped OOB.
3. I blow my whistle for A's timeout.

What do you do?

I would tell partner I had the TO first (before his whistle) and grant it.

Watched a very similar thing in a D1 game this weekend. Coach requested a time out, lead whistles a foul, trail whistles time out. Trail comes straight to the lead and tells him he heard the time out request first. Time out.

Thanks...that's just what I did. Partner looked at me funny, but I stuck to my guns and we granted the timeout, giving the ball back to A.

Is it just me, or does it seem like the player who is fouled is generally from the same team that requested the timeout? Coach tends to get a bit ticked at this point.

I think its funny when the coach gets ticked about the foul, I just look at him/her and tell him/her, you asked for the timeout prior to the foul, contact is ignored.

It was that way in this game. Happened right in front of the team's bench as well. Coach didn't seem displeased, but you never know ;)
