Hi, I'm trying to get involved with officiating. I am fairly familar with the rules of the game and stuff since I have played in the past, but does anyone have any suggestions for me or what study material is good? Thanks

Get you a rule book and a case book, and study those.

Join a local association and be a sponge when it comes to learning. Find a mentor, someone that is willing to shadow you on games throughout the season (for example, 1 game every 2-3 weeks). If necessary, pay them your game fee (or half or whatever) for their time.

You will be surprised how little about the rules you actually know from your playing days, once you get into the rules and case books.

Read this forum constantly, you'd be amazed how many situations mentioned here actually come up, and when they do, you'll be ready.

Also, don't be afraid to ask questions.

Hey, welcome aboard. Hope you get a good start and enjoy being a ref. Let me echo brandan89.Get a book and study it over and over. Also, one thing you will notice -- you will never watch a game the same way again after your start officiating. Watch the game and the officials. No matter how good or bad they are, you'll learn something every time you watch them.
Also, when partners make suggestions, learn from them. You'll develop your own style by watching and emulating many different guys (and women.)Study what they do well and what you would improve upon.
