Officials Column that I wish to share

I just read your blog and all I can say is wow.

You put such an interesting spin on everything. I just hope you used a fake name, an no one from your area reads that thing, because something like that could kill your career.

As an official, you're expected to take the BS from parents and coaches, not dish it out. If a coach stpes over the line, T him up, don't try to argue or reason with him, just whack him.

I said, “Coach, your actions off the court and what you say only is reflected by your kids on the court. Zip it and let them play.”

I had a feeling of calm within me, I had stated what needed to be said and the fire within that coach was extinguished.

Some things are better left unsaid.

I hope you seriously put some thought into what you say to coaches and players. You never know how it will get back to you, and this kind of interaction with coaches is not something we as officials should be doing. If he's over the line whack him, if he's not don't worry about it. Don't be a smart-***.
