I just read your blog and all I can say is wow.

You put such an interesting spin on everything. I just hope you used a fake name, an no one from your area reads that thing, because something like that could kill your career.

As an official, you're expected to take the BS from parents and coaches, not dish it out. If a coach stpes over the line, T him up, don't try to argue or reason with him, just whack him.

Some things are better left unsaid.

I hope you seriously put some thought into what you say to coaches and players. You never know how it will get back to you, and this kind of interaction with coaches is not something we as officials should be doing. If he's over the line whack him, if he's not don't worry about it. Don't be a smart-***.

As soon as I read your initial post in this thread I went directly to your website to read your blog of Tuesday, December 14, 2004. Then I read you Last Call ariticle in the January 2005 (how ironic that it had come in the mail on Wednesday, December 15, 2004) issue of REFEREE Magazine. Then I read every other post in this thread.

Judging from the other posts your blog did not make a favorable impression on many readers. I do not know how many of them also read you REFEREE Magazine article like I did. I was able to determine from the article that the 2004-05 season is your fourth year of officiating basketball here in the USA, and I do not know how many years you officiated in Canada (or where in Canada for that matter) before you moved to the USA.

BUT, you need to get your head out of your tuchus. You are so full of horse manure that if one were to burn it, it could heat a three-bedroom home in the Yukon for an entire winter. Not to mention you are so full of yourself that you need to step away from officiating and decide if you really have what it takes to officiate. It is obvious that four years after the game of which you write in REFEREE, you still can't ignore the fans at your game. That is the biggest signal that you are not cut out to be a sports official.

My advice to you is to step away from officiating for a year and get a life.

Thanks for the advice. That's my new goal, step back and check the ego. I think that people are having trouble with me because they don't know my history and are making judgements on my writings without knowing me first. But that's fine, everyone's entitled to their opinion. I must seem young to everyone in the thread and yourself. Rest assured, there is an element of risk I took in going public with the site. Yeah, I'm full of myself, it's a survival technique that most people who know me also know not to pay attention to. By the way, I am heeding everyones advice this week in my games and things have gone smoothly. Tonight will be the big test for the Friday night games! In my new entries on my site, I will keep all of this in mind and work harder at being less of an egomaniac. Too late now for my previous entries, but at least you'll be able to see how you've helped me develop. Take care and thanks again.

Everyone matures at their own speed.
Hopefully, in this case, it occurs sooner than later.

I don't think age has anything to do with anything. It's experience, the more you deal with coaches and players the more you'll realize that you've got to treat them with respect and they'll do the same, not throw come backs at them. When I started off, I had a huge ego, I was pretty quick to T and it took some time (4 years and counting), but I calmed down a lot.

One of my long term goals is to be able to take it easy on the court, because I'm way to uptight and intense.

But I don't know about the rest of the guys, but you seem old to me.;)
Not all referees are old people, you've got about 12 years on top of me. :D

Thanks again guys! You're right, I don't get it. I never will. But at least I try to. BTW, I ran NCAA indoor track against the school at Bowling Green. I kicked their ***! Maybe back then, if I had of been beat, I would have become more humble. I posted again to the web site, so have a look if you dare! Take it easy, this is the last entry before I return home to Ontario, Canada for the holiday season. I hope all of you have a great one, Merry Christmas to one and all and Happy New Year. My New Year's resolution is to start to get it, whatever that is. As long as you guys are around to keep me humble, I'll never get out of control. PS...had game at town where comments were made last week and everything went great. Had an evaluation done as well which went great, so no complaints on my end. Thanks for the advice, I'll do my best to keep learning.
