Question New Officials

I was wondering what the percentage of new refs that stay reffing after there first season. And how many give it up.
Could anyone tell me?

Pure guess work -- I'd say in officiating all sports, probably about 30% leave after one year. Probably in basketball, about 20% leave after one year. Now in 5 years, in basketball only, I think it's about 35 or 40% that leave. For women, in basketball only, in the first five years it's well over 50%, I'd be willing to bet.

Our association is really making a big deal out of the mentor program because they say 8 out of 10 don't last 3 years. I thought that seemed high but they would know.
