Team A is losing near the end of the game and is on defense and the bench is yelling to "foul her". A1 does so in a legitimate way by going for the ball and hits her arm. Coach from Team B wants a technical for the fact that Team A is yelling to foul a player. Game was a blowout and I just told coach I wasnt listening to their commnets. Game ended up with no problems. Seems to me I have heard of some tech being called for that but cant find it in the book. Any ideas?

It's not a technical during play. The coach might have heard someone call a technical for reaching across the oob plane and hitting the in-bounding opponent. During play, if the team is calling "foul, foul" and you think they're just trying to stop the clock, you have the option (or even responsibility depending on your assignor's preferences) to call an Intentional foul, which is different from a common foul, and carries it's own set of penalties.

no T there, not unless foul was in a blatantly flagratn fowl, bodily injury, but you say she went for the ball, so no T just a fowl.

First of all, there still would not be a T even if there was bodily injury unless there was a fight. Second, which kind of fowl would you call - chicken, duck, etc.?

Seriously, welcome to the board. Expect to take a little good natured teasing. Just remember, no one is mean spirited and we all kid each other a little.

Been to clinics and rules interps. where it's said an intentional foul should be called if the coach is yelling "foul him/her. With a well coached team a coach will yell out red or black or call a special play and the player will be fouled. That being said if it's a "normal foul" I can't recall calling a foul as outlined above. The proper call would not be a Tee rather an intentional foul should have been called if a call is made. That being said I think you handled it well.

A long-time excellent girls HS coach around here (who just retired) would yell "BANANAS, BANANAS" when he wanted his girls to foul. It became kind of an inside joke in this area.

I'm sure I have said it before, but one (of the many) advantages of FIBA rules is that it is no longer an intentional foul, it is now an unsportsmanlike foul.

The old rules used to say that it was an intentional foul if the players intention was to stop the game clock. By definition this basically meant that any foul in the dying seconds of a game could (should?) be called as an intentional. I believe that this was the main reason that it was changed - along with the fact that no-one can actually determine the INTENTIONS of another person - only the result of their actions.

That being said - I would never T the coach (or anyone else) for yelling out "foul"
