I have been through a youth league season with this system, but have only coached one high school game using it. The game was in the high 70's but I think this was part of a learning process for my kids.

A typical high school boys' team running this style system scores in the 90's and low 100's. Grinnell averaged close to 130 last year, I believe.

I know if I were the opposing coach, I'd request a defensive line-up everytime the subs came in.
Aren't these requests limited to team captains or is this just a Cali thing? Obviously, I hate this rule and was loath to bring it up. Won't all of our lives be better if we don't speak of it again?

It is a NATIONAL rule in the NFHS book, but you're correct that it is limited to the team captain.

3-3-1e "A captain may request a defensive match-up if three or more substitutes from the same team enter during an opportunity to substitute."

Come to Reno sometime for a tournament. I'd love to officiate that style of play.

I had an NCAAW team run that style yesterday. From an officiating standpoint, it wasn't a lot different.

Oh, it would definitely be different. We don't use a shot clock here, and I had a team hold the ball for 3 and a half minutes without taking a shot in a game last week!!! I almost fell asleep on the endline.

I would love to be able to take road trips to tourneys but I don't know if my guys are ready to go to Reno. I'm going to start with Burger King and see how that goes.

I will ask around and see if there is already a team in your area that you could watch.
