I am taking the MHSAA basketball examination for new officials. The wording on question #59: If a player is injured, an official's time-out MAY be declared IF necessary to protect the player...

In the Officials Manual on page 45, number 276: If a player is injured, an officials time-out SHALL be declared WHEN necessary to protect the player...

My question: Is this saying the samething? Is the anwser to the test question true or false?

Use the rule book, not the officials' manual.

The state won't send me the rule book until I pass the "official's Mechanics" test.

Thank you - didn't think about that. When I notified the state office to begin this process, they said the test was over the Officials Manual.

Rookie7,
That is no trick question.
Don't over-think it.
Just use the Officials Manual. All the answers for "that" test are in the book you received.

And you have to be a moron to fail the exam, so don't sweat any one question.
