Has the NCAA specifically addressed the yellow LIVESTRONG bracelets with regards to basketball?

How about any sport?

I had high school baseball players trying to wear them... "It's rubber. It will stretch just like a sweat band."

"Then slide it up underneath your shirt sleeve... or take it off."

I don't know Rich. I'm thinking that it has to be a no-no.

The FED has addressed it. I was just asking if the NCAA had. I'm guessing they have, too, I'd just like to see it in writing.

From the NCAA web site

http://www.ncaa.org/champadmin/baske...16_interp.html

Reminder: Any bands worn by players are illegal and not in compliance with Rule 3-7.7, since they are a form of jewelry.

No one managed to state the Fed's posistion on these so I'm assuming they're prohibited items.

I've had a few people with them on during warm ups who didn't think they fell under the defintion of jewlery, my explanation to them, "I have to take mine off to ref, you've gotta take yours off to play."

When is jewelry not jewelry?

I think I remember something about x-country runners out east getting DQ'd because they wore the LiveStrong Bracelet during their meet.

The bracelet caused the DQ not the watch they wore to track their pace.

This decision was later reversed and the DQ cancelled.

If a ref makes me take my bracelet off while playing, surely i would expect him/her to take theirs off while calling!! they are part of the floor too, safety reasons.. What about these kids wearing big colored rubber bands, they are tight on their wrist, should they still take those off???? if allow some but not other things, who will know what to allow..... i think if we don't allow anything, it makes life a lot easier...if they are legal wrist bands they come off

Oh my goodness! Although it is for a good cause this rule hasn't changed. Whether it is yellow for cancer or any other color it isn't allowed. Does anyone on here allow kids to play with NBA headbands on?

Headbands are allowed, with certain restrictions.

I don't know if the "NBA headbands" to which you are referring meet that criteria -- I've seen some that do and some that don't.

headbands? 3-5-2 legal if: no wider than 2 inches, single colored... most of the nba ones i have seen have stripes...not legal... the logo is permitted on the headband or sweat band limited to 2 1/4 square inches... no logo on shirt or undershirts

Where does it say you can't chew gum?

NBA headbands are NOT legal. I don't have my book with me but it mentions a manufacturer logo. The NBA is not a manufacturer therefore it is a no no. We should tell them to flip the headband over or take it off. That is what we do here whether it is high school or college.

Here in Nebraska and Iowa, both associations said the rubber wristbands are jewelry and should not be worn. Heard of a football crew that got chewed out by the state association because they considered it like a sweatband. The observer said it doesn't absorb sweat, it's jewelry!

gum

zebra, what is wrong with chewing gum. is that somewhere in the rule book. I buy super bubble(grape and green apple) by the 500 piece box each season. If I don't chew gum my mouth gets real dry and I find that I chew my mouth guard off of my whistle. I also find that my teeth hurt after a long night of calling.

We also require that players flip their NBA headbands so that the logo can not be seen. No rubber bands can be worn either.

gostars Fri Nov 19, 2004 08:43pm

NFHS 4-6 states "One visible manufacturerÂ’s logo/trademark is permitted on the ...sweatbands and headband and shall be limited to 2 1/4 square inches and shall not exceed 2 1/4 inches in any dimension on each item."

I worked part of a Freshman/JV preseason tournament and we took away numerous rubber bands and LiveStrong bracelets along with multicolored NBA headbands and even some car keys that were on the court.

Problem with gum, I don't want to have to stop the game to perform the Heimlich Manuver. I say that'd fall under the referees responsibility to rule on situations not covered in the rule book.

Pure safety concern.

As for officials, i see nothing wrong with that, just don't get it stuck in the whistle :D It's a pain in the *** to get out ;)

zebra44 Sat Nov 20, 2004 05:48am

If you were to see this guy chomping away during lulls because of nervousness.........to me it just looks unpro. Plus he has launched the gum onto the floor more than once. Chew away guys. Not trying to say you are doing anything wrong.
