Have you ever called a free-throw violation against the defense for saying "miss it", or for making distracting motions with their arms during the shot? If so, what is the text of the applicable rule?

Rule 9-1-5 says "No opponent shall disconcert the free thrower." See Casebook examples for 9-1-5. They include examples of arm movements, committing fouls, opening and closing hands. If an official interprets that act as disconcerting, then it is a violation.

Please notice that opponent also includes the team members and bench personnel sitting on the team bench. They too are covered by this rule and are thus not allowed to yell at the opposing free thrower. If they do, they should be charged with disconcertion. Tell them to leave that stuff to the fans.

I even kicked a couple of fans out once for this very thing. They were absolutely vile and there were only about 9 people in the whole gym. I couldn't find an "administroator" anywhere, so I just told them to leave. And they did. Later, the coach of the team that was taking the abuse thanked me.

And I heard that it took that family of seven almost ten minutes to pack up all their kiddie toys, the baby bottle, and infant stroller before they went out into that blizzard!
