While studying the rulebook for the upcoming high school season, I noticed that the digits 6, 7, 8, 9 are not allowed on high school uniforms.

What is the reason for that?

NFHS mechanics specify one-handed reporting only. You can't show any number between 5 and 10 with one hand only. It was also based on the premise that most high school scorers can't add. :D

Well that makes too much sense! LOL

Well maybe this second year official will be able to tie together more of those loose ends as the season goes this year!

What about those of us who have more than five fingers on each hand? Do "webs" count?

Personally, I've needed only one finger to communicate with some coaches. NO - not that one. The one that points to the door to the parking lot.

Just to pre-emptively answer the next question . . .

A team can't have both 0 and 00 as jersey numbers. This is because most stat tracking software automatically converts 0 to 00 (and 5 to 05, etc.).

legal numbers

on that last topic with "0" and "00". This was a question on our test.

The numbers "0" and "00" are legal numbers and may be worn by players of either team. True or False. I answered true because I had no idea about statistic programs converting the "00" to a "0".

True is correct. A team roster may include 0 or 00 but not both.
