NFHS rules
offense in the front court
fouls the defense and it is a shooting foul

Can some one go through the possibilities of each switch

First set Trail is tableside

Trail call the foul reports and now is tableside

old L goes to
old C goes to

C calls the foul and reports and is now tableside

Old T goes to
old L goes to

L calls the foul and reports and is now tableside
Old T goes to
Old C goes to

Second set

Trail and L are opposite table
Trail calls the foul and reports and moves to tableside
Old L goes to
Old C goes to

Lead calls the foul and reports and moves to tableside
Old T goes to
Old C goes to

C calls the foul and reports and moves to tableside
Old T goes to
Old L goes to

thanks in advance

Bob

thanks!

I was trying to figure out how the Lead would not have to travel 84 feet on shooting fouls.

I may have misread the question. I gave the answer for a foul on the defense -- staying at the same end to shoot.

Now, I think you asked, foul on the offense -- going to the other end to shoot.

The person who called the foul goes (or stays) tableside. The other official who is closest to the other end goes down and becomes L and administers the throw. The other official who is farthest from the other end stays farthest from the other end and becomes C.

Let me try to answer my own question and see if I understand
offense in the front court and fouls the Defense (shooting foul)

First set Trail is tableside

Trail call the foul reports and now is tableside

old L goes to C
old C goes to L (tableside)

C calls the foul and reports and is now tableside

Old T goes to L (tableside)
old L goes to C

L calls the foul and reports and is now tableside
Old T goes to L (tableside
Old C goes to C

Second set

Trail and L are opposite table
Trail calls the foul and reports and moves to tableside
Old L goes to C
Old C goes to L (tableside)

Lead calls the foul and reports and moves to tableside
Old T goes to C
Old C goes to L (tableside)

C calls the foul and reports and moves to tableside
Old T goes to L (tableside)
Old L goes to C

So do I have it (at least on paper)

I think all are correct except for this one.

The old T is closer to the far end-line, so s/he'll become L and the old C will be the new C.

It's easier to do than it is to write.

...and how about the scenario where there is no bonus on the foul in the frontcourt by the offense?
Lead calls a foul...reports...and then goes back to the baseline going the other way as the new Trail.
This is called a "V" back...correct?

NFHS

I think that might depend on your state or association. I have not heard of NF change other than how we were told to do it. I am not sure if the NF has made this clear.

I have never heard the term "V back" before.

Peace

I've not heard that term, but you describe it correctly. I've heard it called "no long switch."

This is true as long as the old Lead is on the tableside when s/he makes the foul call - then you "V-back"...if not on tableside, then you switch to tableside after reporting and usually become the new C...(NFHS only)

This might be one of those things that differs by state, but what you posted is not true here.

If there's an offensive foul in the FC, treat it just as if it were a violation. The old L / New T will administer all throw-ins in the back court -- so we either slide or bump-and-run.

rockyroad Tue Nov 02, 2004 01:42pm

Hmmm...the state was pretty clear with us that all fouls the calling official will go tableside. So an offensive foul in the FC called by the L is no different - if the L is tableside, then stay and administer the throw-in...if the L was not tableside, we have a switch...maybe that's just a state thing, but from what I read, it's what's in the Fed. manual for three-person, isn't it??

I do not think it is clearly stated. But in our state they told us not to switch in this situation. Remember, this change was made in the middle of off year for the Manual. So I am not surprised there are some differences in how people use this mechanic.

Peace
