A1 is goin to the basket to score and while in the act of shooting is intentionally fouled by B1. A1 gets the two shots just from the regular foul and another two from the intentional right? and does A1 have to shoot the intentional foul shots or can someone else. Also if B1 committs another intentional foul is B1 ejected from the game?

The penalty for an intentional foul is 2 FT's (unless it happens on a 3-point try- then it's 3 FT's) plus possession. If you gave out 4 FT's, you would be penalizing them twice for the same act. The player fouled intentionally must shoot the FT's unless injured and unable to. There is no limit to the # of intentional fouls a player may commit, except for the 5 total fouls needed for disqualification.

There is only one foul - no twofers.

A1 gets two shots with the lane cleared, then team A gets the ball for inbound at the spot closest to where the foul was committed.

An intentional foul is simply a foul that the official judges was committed intentionally to create a disadvantage for the opponent, ie, grabbing him/her to prevent them from making a layup. Other than the 2 shots + the ball consequence, it's treated the same as any common foul.

I think you may be confusing an intentional foul with a technical foul. Under NFHS, a player is disqualified after receiving either two technical fouls, or five total fouls including common & technical.

Any foul deemed by the official as flagrant, whether technical or common (possibly intentional), immediately disqualifies the player committing the foul from further participation.

I don't have my rule book handy, but I'm sure others here can provide you with the exact rule references. Hope this helps......

NCAA reference:

Rule 10, Section 23. Personal-Foul Penalties

Art. 2. The offended player shall be awarded free throw(s) as follows:

b. Two free throws for:

2. An intentional personal or flagrant personal foul and the ball awarded at a designated spot nearest to where the foul occurred.

c. Three free throws for: A personal foul against a player who attempts a three-point field goal and whose try is unsuccessful. When the personal foul is intentional or flagrant, the ball also shall be awarded to the offended team at a designated spot nearest to where the foul occurred.

What if?

the basket goes in on the layup? count the basket and still 2 shots and the ball with the intentional?
what about on the 3point shot if it goes in? count the basket and still 3 shots and the ball with intentional?

Good idea to maybe get a few new guys thinking.

Not quite.

The only time you get three FT's on an intentional foul is if the three-point try is unsuccessful. If the player hits the three, he only gets two free throws.

In case Chuck's quip is unclear, know that he is pointing out to you that a flagrant foul is not a common foul by definition. Nor is an intentional foul.
