I know this may have been threaded before, but...

I'm in process of negotiating next year's contract with HS league. Please help with my cost analysis.

How much are your schools paying per game for:

* Varsity
* Frosh/Soph or JV
* Freshmen only
* Middle School or Jr. High

if schools pay an assigning or admin fee, please include or note.

Thanks.

For the most part, no assigning fees.

On rare occasion, you can work out some kind of travel compensation with that school's AD--depending how good you are and how bad that AD or coach wants you to do his game. ;)

Thanks, for everyone's help

but for states that state a range (Kansas, Indiana) in pay for the varsity, is it level of play that dictates the pay? or the league? or both?

gymrat Fri Jan 26, 2001 03:00pm

Does anyone know college fees, NAIA up to D-1?

Pizanno,

I'm a first year, so I haven't done any varsity stuff. However, I work (occupation not officiating) with a 12 yr vet and spend a lot of time with a large group in this area. (Just so you know that this is second hand.) In my area, the rates are usually set by the leagues. Non-league games (where the AD hires the officials) usually follow suit with the same amount. One local league pays $70/nite, another only $45. Can't find any rhyme or reason. Doesn't appear to be based on school size, league size, etc. I have one very small rural school (less than 35 students in 10-12 grades) that pays me $45 for one JV game. Keep in mind that we are in a very rural area of the country.

WOW! Either you guys are under paid or I'm over paid!

(Insert smartass comment here, mick!) :D

In NC, the NCHSAA sets all fees.

Varsity- $50 for 1 game, $70 for 2 (All varsity games are 3 man)
Varsity, any type of tournament- $60 per game
JV- $40 for 1 game, $60 for 2 games (3 man)
JV- $45 for 1 game, $65 for 2 games (2 man)

All fees are flat fees. We do not get travel.

Schools pay a booking fee of $85 and $50 for each additional team.

OPTIPLEX2001 Sat Jan 27, 2001 02:38pm

Yeash - you guys aren't getting enough...

Here, in western NC, referees get paid 22.50 a game for two referees for youth level. Varsity games, 3 referees get paid 75.00 a game.

I think you're mistaken Matthew. The varsity fees are set by the NCHSAA and are $70 for two varsity games.

SIDRef Sun Jan 28, 2001 05:00pm

In North Carolina:

Varsity DH (3-man crew) $70 each
single game $45

Lower level DH (2-man) $65 each
single game $40

Seems we have it pretty good here, seems especially at the lower level.

SID,

Single game fees have gone up.

3 man varsity single game is now $50 and 2 man JV is now $45. That's directly out of the NCHSAA Handbook. If your association is getting less than that, you should look into it. Which association do work with?

It must be different...

It must be different for your region. Our school pays $75.00/a game per official.

Matt

BktBallRef Sun Jan 28, 2001 08:36pm

No. I'm afraid that it's not.

Matt, fees are determined by the NCHSAA, the governing body for high school sports in NC. It's the same across the entire state. $70 for 2 games, not $75 for 1 game. If that were true, every official in the state would be moving to western NC.

The association that covers western NC is the Southwestern Officials Association. There we site is at http://www.southwesternofficials.org...t/default.htm. Game fees are linked on the left of the home page. Check it out for yourself. Or ask an official the next time you're at a game.

OPTIPLEX2001 Sun Jan 28, 2001 08:41pm

Well, I'll check it out. You could be right.

Matt
