back court violation or not?????

had this happen, player A takes a long 3 point attempt or any shot for that matter, the shot is such a brick it bounces back into back court before anyone else touches it, team A finally rebounds the ball, Violation or not? i feel that if the defense is not going to rebound the ball and team A can get to it, they shouldn't be penalized, just can't find nothing like that in the rule book, a coach did argue with me that it should be a violation....

Not a violation.

Once the shot is attempted, there is no longer team control of the ball. Thus, team A does not have control of the ball when it goes backcourt, meaning either team can touch the basketball first without violating.

This missed shot may even be tapped out and into the back court by team A, without a violation.

yes they can do the hokey pokey and turn around even, then as long as they establish on the court position they can touch it first...
