I was browsing a website for an association of College Officials (MACBOA). There was part of a memo that mentionned that officials should not go out for the 2nd half with a sweat-stained shirt. As an official who sweats alot, I was curious about this directive. I had never heard anyone mention something like that before. Do any of you bring two shirts to a game and change at half time? I could, but the thought never crossed my mind.

I wear a black v-neck t-shirt under my striped shirt. That takes care of the sweat so the striped shirt stays fresh and clean. :)

One of their evaluators works in my high school board, and YES, MACBOA advocates coming out for the 2nd half looking as sharp as you did when you started the game. This evaluator stresses this to many of the officials he observes at the JV and V high school level as well.

I always have an extra uniform (pants and shirt) to use in case blood gets on me. Luckily, I don't sweat much so I've never had to use a second shirt to clean up my appearance.

Yes, a t-shirt under your stripes will help in that regard. Will help the striped shirt last longer as well. Black t-shirts are $5 each or less if you know where to look. Bring at least two.

Anything that makes you feel a little bit better and fresher going into the second half is a positive for your work as an official.

I wear underarmor under my stripes and like it much better than the black tshirts I used to wear.

They really do wick away the sweat and keep you cooler.

Jay R, many companies make under garments that keep the sweat to a minimum. I like Nike or Under Armour. I will be your personal preference to decide if you like a loose fit or compression fit.
The message is on the MACBOA site because we wear grey shirts and they show sweat more than black and white. With the under garments mentioned before this has yet to be a problem for me. I will only wear a t-shirt in rec and then it is a McDavid sleeveless v-neck.

What's the MACBOA? MA often stands for Massachusetts, but I've never heard of the MACBOA. Give me a hint?

I generally have a second uniform with me and occasionally I will change shirts. More likely is that I will wear an undershirt for the first half because the gym is slightly cool. By the time of the second half I have thoroughly warmed up and am now creating enough heat that I can loose the undershirt. I plan to try underarmor this year... so I may not need any change in wear due to temperature.

I have done a little split pants deal where I needed my second pair of pants... that was an amusing situation!

It's okay to wear a sweat-stained shirt if you've got your patent leathers on. Nobody will notice the shirt. :)
