You better. You better approach this camp differently if you want to be hired. You better have your A game. Not a place to make regular mistakes. Of course you will make them, we all do. But you cannot make the really big ones.

Peace

Treat it like a job interview. Make sure your uniform is in great shape. Shoes shined. Put your best foot forward. Wear pants. If someone asks why, tell them this is how you are going to look on the floor during the season. Good Luck!

Take pants, but if everyone else is in shorts, you should be also. By wearing pants you give the impression that you are going out of your way to set yourself apart from your partners. Many evaluators can take that the wrong way and might OVER-evaluate you because of it.

It's better to be a team and look like it.

Having attended my first D1 camp this past June, I can tell you that it's the "little things" that make the difference between those who get hired and those who don't. Everybody can call the obvious foul or travel. Lot's of guys look the part (6'4" and built like the Terminator). Many will have the "connections" or more experience than you. How do you seperate yourself from all of the others at the camp? The guys who do the "little things" all the time in each game that will distinguish themselves from the others.
Here are the little things that I'd focus on: hustle (no excuse for a lack of it), excellent mechanics (don't be lazy), stay in your primary, communicate (with your partners, players, and coaches), control the game (blow the whistle when needed and let the kids play when needed), etc.
Steve Welmer, D1 official who had 123 games last season said: "you get hired into D1 because of your presence and the calls you don't make"..............

Finally, just relax! It's the same game you've worked hundreds of times before. Nothing more, nothing less. If you're ready, you'll get hired.

Excellent point!!!! Another little thing: keep checking the clock. D1 coordinators like to see you look at the clock during every dead ball.

D1 coordinators like to see you look at the clock every trip down the court.

Don't wear pants. Wear the uniform that the supervisor wants you to wear. Also, if they give you a shirt, they may want you to wear that every day. Something I just picked up this year. HAVE FUN!!

I, too, will be going to my first "exposure camp" tomorrow. My goal wasn't to get picked up this summer but I was happy to get the invite. I'm just going to go out there and have fun.

But one tip I received from a DI guy that is in our regular association chapter, who is rooting for me to get picked up at this camp, told me to smile. He said that shows that you're having fun and enjoying yourself.
