One wrestler is designated by the red, the other by the green, this way the scorer knows who received the points. So if the referee holds two fingers up with the arm that has the red band the red wrestler gets the points.

When the wrestlers come the are assigned a color (red or green) then when they score a point the referee has a red band on one hand and green band on the other. To signal the point he signals w/the corresponding color.

Hulk Hogan don't need no damn points!

BTW, do we have any statistics on how many wrestling scorekeepers are color-vision challenged?

What about the time he lost to Andre the Giant and then Andre immediately turned and relinquished the belt to. . . darn, I forget who he gave it to. :(

I think that Andre gave it to the Million Dollar Man. But they had to cheat to do it. They hired an evil referee, who was an identical twin brother of the regular referee, and snuck him into the ring. The evil referee then screwed poor old Hulk. Counted to 3 even though Hulk got his shoulder up. Hulk shoulda known better though. The evil referee had red armbands on both arms, and Hulk was wearing green.

PS- The evil referee's name was Bill Kennedy.

I coulda swore Andre gave it up to Indigo Montoya, who then proceeded to track down and kill the Six-fingered Man. Of course, the Dread Pirate Roberts eventually took the crown and saved the Princess Bride from her horrible fate.

Yep, it was. Ted DeBiossie. I thought so, but couldn't remember for sure. (Plus, I didn't want to seem too knowledgable about the WWF.) That was when wrestling was fun, instead of being soft-core porn.

PS- I think that it was Wrestlemania 3 where Hulk fought Andre the Giant. In Wrestlemania 1 didn't Hulk and Mr. T fight Rowdy Roddy Piper and Brutus Beefcake? With Liberace as the co-announcer with Billy Martin?

And Bert Kennedy as the special guest referee.

Maybe, I'd stopped watching by then. But the match where Andre turns over the belt was before Wrestlemania. When Andre gave up the belt, "Commissioner" McMahon ruled that the heavyweight title was vacant. Hulk lost it, Andre gave it up, and Million Dollar Man didn't beat anybody to get it. So no champ. They set up a single-elimination tournament with 14 or 16 guys to see who would come out as the champ. And I think that tournament was basically Wrestlemania I.

The Andre/Hulk match must've been in the days just prior to Wrestlemania IV; and then they fought again at the event.

So I re-issue my apology, since I was wrong about it being Wrestlemania I, but it wasn't Wrestlemania III either. Nyah, nyah.

See link below. Andre the Giant beat Hulk Hogan on 02/05/88. They took it away from him and held a 16 man tournament at Wrestlemania 4 on 03/27/88. Macho Man Randy Savage beat Ted DeBiase for the championship, with help from Hulk Hogan. The good twin, Blaine Kennedy was the referee.

wsohl & smoref had it correct. Wrestlers are assigned a color for ID purposes as their uniforms may be the same or simlar. The official raises the arm with the color of the scoring wrestler and indicates with his fingers how many points were earned.
As far as the references to Andre, Hulk, etc..., that is entertainment not athletics. Just check out their name, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

Yea, I could tell the difference between real wrestling and the WWE stuff. It's easy to tell just by the names. Real wrestling has people like John Smith, and Jose Vasques. WWE has names like Smasher, Digger and so on. See, Jurassic, the study of baby names can be very enlightening and practical!
