Grasping the rim during play

Reffing a boy's varsity game last night. Team A has a 6'10" kid that is active, but not real talented. He goes for an offensive rebound but doesn't time it very well and arrives at the rim after the ball has already bounded away. For no apparent reason (no contact, nobody under him), he grasps the rim and gives it a good pull, causing the collapsible rim to snap down and back into place.

While the rule book allows us to call a T at any time for grasping the rim, how many of you would T that up instantly? How many would not call the T and talk to the kid at next opportunity? Other options?
