I've been in Officials' rooms that have clocks that have displays connected to the game clock! Let's us know how much time left pre-game and halftime. Pretty cool...

also love court with springy wooden floor (nothing worse than those rubber tartan floors...bad 70s idea).

The best hospitality I've experienced was an ice chest with bottled water on the top, and beer at the bottom!

Padding is only a necessity of point number 1 is not adheared to. Good spacing on the end lines negates any need for padding. One other point, if there is not good spacing, that the cheerleaders pick a good spot to stand and not where you want to officiate.

With this being my first year the "learning curve" has been steep. This is one lesson I learned early.

I am of the impression that truning also reduces stress and risk of injury to Achilles' tendons.
However, it definitely adds stress ppotential to your neck when that ball is right behind you. "C'mon partner, cover back!"

I can't say I've worked in any of the good conditions that y'all are describing, since I'm not up to that level yet. But my favorite place to work so far was outdoors! It was a camp where the courts are all out doors and they are all cement (or concrete, I never remember which is correct). It was 100 degrees all week, adn the humidity was about 10 percent. The level of play was varsity boys all star. Man it was a blast! We only worked one quarter at a time, then sat one quarter. We'd go get drenched before our quarter, and be bone dry when it was done. But the air smelled great, the surroundings were spectacular and the bball was fabulous. I will definitely be at that camp every year from now on.
