Goals

List your goals for the upcoming season.

I am filling out a questionaire for a potential invitation to a college camp. One of the questions or requests is to list two goals for the upcoming season. I'm looking for the right words and I thought that by reading your goals that I may be able to come up with the wording I desire to list my goals.

To not call a technical foul during the entire season. Yeah, right. A snow ball has a better chance of surviving in hell than that happening.

No particular order.

1. Get better as an official.
2. Make my associations better.
3. Make the playoffs--Get a Sectional (not likely to happen)
4. Do more college basketball.
5. Work more conferences or work more in the conferences I already work.
6. Become a better game manager.
7. Become a better partner.
8. Become a better teacher of officiating.
9. Make more steps to become a Clinician.
10.Get even better than that!!

Peace

-Work on my 'partnership' skills, i.e., become more polished at making adjustments among a crew to create cohesiveness and consistency.
-Advance my career by gaining employment in a Division I conference, or at the least building the foundations that may lead to this in the future.
-Polish my communication skills with coaches and players, especially working on always remaining calm and cool, not antagonistic.
-Gain more games and more important games in the conferences that I do work in, continue to gain the confidence of my supervisors.
-Have as much fun this season as I did last.

Oh, and one more...

-Continue to mentor and bring in new officials.

It's interesting, because the goals I am working toward have to be met in the next six weeks. If I wait until October to start thinking about them, it'll be too late.

1. Got a couple of really bad habits that I need to break (I'm too embarrassed about them to admit them here).

2. Better physical condition.

3. Quit working lower level games, because I'm working more upper level games, including getting picked up for college.

4. Keep working on coach management.

1)Work on controlling and perfecting the things I have control over (mechanics, communication, presence, etc)...

2)Work on letting go of the things I don't have control over (like who hires me, what level I get to do, etc.) so I can help make my crew better every night...

The wisdom to know the difference? Or have you already got that down? :)

Hey Juulie, you gonna be at Pat's camp at Oregon City??? If so, that's my topic this summer - the old plaque my mom had above the kitchen sink (spent hours washing and rewashing dishes as a kid) - "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." I think I can now tell the difference, just struggle with the serenity part!! Hence, my two goals for this coming year...

Didn't you see the parts in my goals about working on things in June, and getting picked up for college? Of course I'll be there. I look forward to your lecture on applying 12-step principles to reffing!

rockyroad Fri May 21, 2004 10:32am
