For comparison's sake, would you please list the varsity high school game fee that your state pays? I don't need travel fees, just the official's game fee and whether that fee is for 2-person or 3-person. If your state pays different fees by school classification size, please note that as well. For instance:
Washington State: 2-person $48.00 per official for classes 2A, 3A and 4A $42.00 per official for classes 1A and B Thanks, Z |
Kentucky pays $50 for Varsity, two-whistle and $40 for varsity three-whistle.
JV pays $25 Middle School pays $20 |
In Michigan,
Average varsity pay is $55 Average junior varsity pay is $40 Average freshman pay is $40 Average pay for anything else is $50 for 2 games in the junior high level. These rates are average rates not based on any school or league size as all schools try to be as close as possible with each other. The varsity pay is also per official, no matter of a 2-man crew, or 3-man crew. [Edited by johnSandlin on Mar 25th, 2004 at 02:46 PM] |

Oklahoma
Pay is done by individual school districts rates varied by a districts wealth or poverty as so many districts in Oklahoma are. High end: Varsity - $50 to $65 with my average being closer to $50 JV - $40 to $55 with my average being around $50 again. Low end: Varsity and JV - $35 to $50 I average in the about $40 for the low end schools. I actually take alot of the "low end" poorer school districts because they pay milage at a better rate than the higher end districts. Milage doesn't make up for the extra $15 but alot of times I'll pick up games in my home town so my wife and I will just make a weekend out of it and go home to see our parents and collect a game check and millage going somewhere we would have probably gone anyway. It's really nice when I can get a Friday-Saturday back to back set and collect milage twice. |

Rec league I work for is $18 per game, 6 minute quarters. It's not great pay, but you can get all the games you want. An official I know worked 13 consecutive games during the winter tournament.
I personally wouldn't recommend that. Five games in a row is really pushing my limit. |
In San Diego, CA
Varsity 2 or 3 person $55/game JV and Freshman $40/game Fees are slightly higher for playoffs and sectionals |
A little bit different from the earlier post regarding game fees in Kentucky...
In Kentucky, each region has a policy board that sets the game fees for the officials in that region. In my region, we get the following: JV (2 person): $40 Varsity 2 person: $65 Varsity 3 person: $55 per person |
Just curious to what region you are from? I'm from the 12th and our fees are as follows:
2 person crew: $65 per official 3 person crew: $60 per official |
Yeah - thats for two man... I've got the three man list somewhere i just forgot where..
VARSITY GAMES ONLY! does the gate percentage apply, In the houston area we've goin to flat rate contract games + gate after so many dollars but its more than what TASO sets as a guideline. Three-person crews only take a 4 or 5 dollar hit. This year in houston, and someone can correct me if i'm wrong, Contracted Public School games were 65.00 (3-person) Sub-varsity is a set pay scale, All districts that the Houston Chapter of TASO have agreed to 14.00 milage so your game fees usualy end up $39 $54 $69 Sub-Varsity tournys are 25 dollars a game + mileage. Varsity Tournys are 40 dollars a game plus 10 or 12 dollars mileage. |
in MT
In Montana, all high school sports in all areas pay the same fee:
Varsity: $50 Sub-Varsity $30 I personally think it's kind of bogus that a volleyball official who stands still makes the same as a basketball official who tends to run 2-3 miles a game. |
The number in () indicate the number of games (Single game or double header.) I tried my best to make it readable. This board won't makes it a real pain to post a list of information. You can see the original chart here (http://www.dallasref.com/how_to_join.htm) just scroll down to question three. I probably should mention that these are minimums (Why any school would pay more unless its playoffs I do not know.).

Everytime I gome "home", I realize that I could never live there again. I have been gone sine Dec. '70. I have family in H'burg and McComb and they want me to retire in MS, but I can't bring myself to do it. |
In northeastern New Jersey, varsity (2-ref) gets about $75 each, freshman and JV about $47 each, rec league and tournaments (up to 8th grade) about $30-35 each.
