Another correctable error in NIT
First Round NIT Missouri @ Michigan:
6:12 remaining in first half. #44 for Michigan is fouled while shooting. Try is unsuccessful. Another player for Michigan goes to the line and makes the first free throw. Missouri coach Snyder asks the official to check on the shooter. It is in fact the wrong player. The officials have to take away the point and put #44 on the line. He makes 1 of 2. I've never seen the NIT officials have such a rough start. Let's hope the NCAA tournament doesn't experience the same thing. [Edited by Nevadaref on Mar 16th, 2004 at 08:57 PM] |

Here's what actually happened in that NIT game:
1. Michigan's Sims was fouled hard in the act of shooting by Missouri's Johnson, who on the play knocked Michigan's Hunter to the floor. 2. Hunter hits his head on the floor and needs to be removed from the game. 3. Officials lose track of the shooter and tell Michigan coach Amaker that Hunter's replacement will shoot the FTs. Amaker puts in a shooting guard who makes the first FT. 4. Missouri coach Snyder then brings the error to the officials' attention. 5. Officials go to courtside monitor to review play. 6. Officials wave off made FT, allow Michigan to change its substitute, since the sub will not be shooting, then place proper shooter at the line. |
