In the subsequent rounds are the officials chosen as a group of three or individually?

Assignment is individually - you won't necessarily stay with the same crew for the whole tourney.

If, however, your whole crew screws up a play, you may all be on the same crew - watching the Final Four from your favorite local sports bar.

Wonder if the official who whacked the Xavier coach will move on. He passed on a possible charge that I thought was a good no-call. He popped Coach Matta immediately after the Louisville basket, so the coach must have said something magical. :)

I hope so. Working the book for A-10 games, there are a lot of coaches I'd like to see T'd up. :p

On a serious note, though, I've never cheered that hard for Xavier in my life, and I hope I will never have to again!

They are two separate individuals. Both John and Tim Higgins are listed on the roster of approved officials for Conference USA, Big 12, etc.

maybe not an error

Well, then, ...
I was thinking that the website had simply flipped the first names of the two officials. I didn't think that there really were guys with those names who officiated NCAA basketball at the the tourney level.
So much for the simplest explanation rule.

Thanks aces88, I did a WebFerret search for John Higgins but didn't get any positive results. Most D1 officials will show up in a boxscore on the Internet somewhere.

Here's an interesting site.

BktBallRef - There are two "Higgins" that work major D1 ball. Tim Higgins had the Georgia Tech v Northern Iowa game (Bradley Center - Milwaukee, WI). John Higgins - who lives in Omaha, NE. - worked the Duke v Alabama St. game. John works Big 12, C-USA, and Big Ten (among others).....
