Hi Eyad,

You will find most posters are from the USA and will refer to High School Federation or NCAA rules.

A few of us work FIBA. I work FIBA for high school and NCAA for college. I live in Canada.

If you have any specific FIBA questions, just post them as FIBA and those of us who are interested and knowlegeable can help you out.

By the way, many discussions refer to philosphies, what to call, what to ignore, game management etc... Those discussions can be valuable to any set of rules.

yes I have a qstn, we do have a sponsor who is interested in having his logo just at the square of the board this is top of the rim, is this fine according to FIBA rules, and from your experience what other options would be suitable to have such a logo, taking into concideration the sponsor and his money !!!

Remember FIBA and NCAA Men are very similar in mechanics and in a majority of rules because of Henry O. Nichols, the Supervisor of Officials for NCAA Men, as a member of the FIBA World Technical Commission.

I'd like to get carded by FIBA one day. One of my officiating goals is to do a gold medal game in the olympics.

FIBA won't allow officials from either country in the game to officiate that game. As for certification, you will need a certification from the national federation first. (In the US, it is USA Basketball.) Furthermore, they have a stringent test used for officiating.

There won't be much of Canada left with the rules of FIBA soon, since the province of Québec is going with NFHS and NCAA rules in september 2005.

I think they will keep certain elements of the FIBA rules but mostly I will have to learn new rules or interpretation of rules. The modifications will not be easy especially with the coaches who will have to be aware of those changes.

Hope that the changes will go smoothly.

What other provinces besides Ontario and soon to be Quebec use the NFHS rules???

As of now:
- Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec use FIBA rules.
- Ontario uses NFHS rules.
- BC and PEI use NCAA men's rules.

I don't know about Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Great to see another FEEBLE ref here - I will be happy to do what ever I can do to help anyone that has FIBA related questions.

However, I won't be here to often - I have just started High School teaching, so don't have too much spare time on my hands.
