Second college game I watched today where an official on an OOB call pointed at the player that had the last touch. AS if to say, "I am so sure and I'll show everyone the player to prove it." My first thought was that this could look good in HS game. Two problems, I know those guys in my association that will enjoy pointing out that this is not a mechanic. Second, what happens when later in the game when you need to sell a call and you are not sure which player it was. Won't people be expecting you to identify the player last to touch?

Thoughts?

I wouldn't use it unless its an approved mechanic.
And if your not sure who it went off of, ask your partner or use the arrow.

Doing this for a while now.

I have used this mechanic for years. I have never been told not to you it. And I do not use it all the time. I just use it when it may look like two players touch the ball or when a very slight kick or touch would not be noticed by the entire gym. I might not even use it once a game. I think people have to come up with their own style to some extent. This might not fit your style or your demeanor. I have no problem with this, but others might not.

Peace

Keep from saying Off Blue

Or off white or off anytbing else. Sometimes all that is heard is a color and your partner or players my get confused as to who gets the ball.

My two favorite colors to use are "stay here" and "that way" :)

One that I have to do all the time is this:

I know that the defense touched it last, but I forget which colour the teams are. So, I have to recall what half we're in and then a quick look to the near bench and I can then deduce which team gets the ball.

I know it's stupid, but the funny thing is I've been eval'd and I ask the guy eval'ing me and he says that he cannot tell what I'm doing. :)
