Probably very simple question for you guys but I have ran into some confussion this year with a few people. Is the side of the backboard in or out of bounds on a square backboard?

In

The only part that is out is the back of the backboard and of course any supporting pieces. Sides, top, and bottom are in.

Great, Thanks for the help. I new that it was in but I have a couple of people that continue to tell me that it is out and I was starting to believe it.

Of course, there is no such thing as a square backboard...only a rectangular one (or fan shaped).

if a ball goes over the top of a rectangular backboard, its out. I thought that the rules state that if it goes over the top of a fan-shaped backboard the ball is still in. Anyone have the rule on this?
