Roger that! Sometimes think I should be rotating when doing 2-man. I know you can "go over" for post play, but I sometimes feel like I should rotate as lead.
I was watching an ESPN classic NBA game from 1986 the other day. They were working two man (which looked really odd!) It appeared that the lead worked back and forth across the key all night long. In Fed, at least the way they teach it around here, coming across is something that should only be done occassionally. That seems absurd to me. If there's post play on the far side of the key I don't seen any reason why the lead can't be there all night long. Seems to me the NBA guys had the better system.

Where do I start.

I got the opportunity to so 3 Person in my first season. I had a few games where I had that opportunity. I did just about everything wrong in retrospect. I was not only learning officiating, I was learning this system. The good thing I did not have all the 2 person habits ingrained in my mind to have to reprogram myself.

I guess the biggest mistake is knowing when and when not to rotate.

Peace

Watch out for the block/charge

My biggest lesson in 3 man was letting the trail call a block/charge. In 2 man, you have your primary on your side below the free throw line. If someone comes in from outside the arc and you have this situation, it is yours all the way.

In 3 man, the trail will see the play develop and follow the ball handler all the way in to the shot and have the best view of the play.

So, when you are lead, listen for a double whistle and be ready to give up the call to the trail even if it is in your primary in this situation.
