Towards the end of the 1st quarter of a game I was refereeing (10 and under), I realized I had called 4 fouls, three of them against the team with very bland uniform tops and mismatched shorts. The other team had nice matching uniforms (tops and shorts). I wondered if I was un-intentionally slanted towards the better looking uniforms. It was a close game with the good uniforms pulling away in the 4th quarter.
After the game, I mentally reviewed the game as best as I could and could'nt see that I was slanted. Anyone else have a similiar experience? |
You're kidding, right? ;)

Sam, don't feel bad. That's probably how the game flowed. I wondered myself once or twice in similar situations. Heck, once I thought I was calling too much on the nicer uniforms because it looked like they were more aggressive. I think there may be times where the uniform with the "raggy" look might play more "inept" than the other team. I know from experience (as a coach) teams play better when they have nicer uniforms. Dunno why that happens, but seems that way.

I knew this sounded silly, but I just thought I would throw it out.
Thanks for not riding me to hard. |
