In varsity boys game. in 4th quarter team A calls a 30 second timeout. We grant it, they rush over and sit down on their bench. Asst, coach from team B is furious wanting us to give them a T for sitting. We told him as long as they don't delay there was no penalty. Right or wrong?

You are correct. There is no penalty if a team decides to sit down during a 30 sec. TO. Why are you listening to crap from an Asst. Coach?

Assistant Coach

You should be giving the assistant coach a T for even talking to you. Assistant coaches should be seen and never heard, especially in a varsity level game.

They can sit down...and to be even more correct on the matter....They can have that 30 second timeout anywhere the wnat... the only thing in the rule book about timeout's is on the full timeout...it must be take by the bench area.

Did anyone look this up in the book? I don't have mine with me, but I think they added a comment where the teams should stay on the floor forthe 30. I don't think it said they had to, just one of those NFHS "comments".

On a better note, for my game last night, which was the first game of the year for the school, the announcer kept calling them 20's. I guess old habits are hard to break.

There was a comment a couple years ago. It was there for only 1 year I believe. It was reccomended but not required. The only issue is being ready when the time-out is over.

Rut,
I had Asst. Coaches stand up and question calls during a dead ball. The only thing I said was "Be seated".

I asked an asst. Coach to remind the head Coach where the Coaching Box was when I only had one more "Letter" to say to the Head Coach.

I listen to their requests about watching this, or that.

If they are on the bench, I try to treat them with respect.
