Observed closly from courtside the NBA ref ID'd in ongoing thread (NBA REF). He handles Whistle. Out of his mouth 30% of the time ball is in play. Raised question...... How much "talking" do you do to the players at the MS/HS level? Your whistle in mouth all the time? Is this common around the country. We "warn" about three seconds: "Get outta the Lane", We occassionally shout "Hands off" on hand checks. Our chapter says teaching is part of our role. Any others going on? |
I occasionally will say things like "Get your knee out of their butt," "Get your elbow ot of their back," or "Set a legal screen. But those warnings are very short in duration (like once, maybe) and only given when the play is away from this activity.
POE's say call them immediately. |
I try to avoid saying things that essentially admit I'm ignoring a foul. I will say things like -- STRAIGHT UP rather than GET THAT KNEE OUT.
I talk a lot to players. I have the whistle out every so often. |
