A1 made a basket and as the ball came down A2 caught it under the basket and either dropped it or tossed it to the ref (I cannot remember which). A2 was given a delay of game warning. He received an explanation for the other official but I was not close enough to hear. What is the rule on delay of game? I am in Texas so I assume they are using UIL Rules.

The scoring team is not allowed to delay the game by preventing the opponent from immediately inbounding the ball.

However, if he caught it and dropped it or tossed it to an official, I wouldn't have issued a warning.

If B1 is trying to grab the ball as A2 catches it and tosses it to the official, give the official warning.

First time a team warning-second time a T

Players do this when they press. It prevents the other team from a quick inbound before the defense sets up. That makes my advantage/disadvantage rule apply. For some reason, I see more in girls games.

Other than that, I wouldn't call it.

THERE IS NO UIL RULES! THE UIL has adopted the NFHS Rule Book with local exceptions to the coaching box and one or two other things but not even enough to worry about. Sorry :-) I just cant stand it when people say "well thats the NFHS rule book not the UIL rule book" or "we play by UIL"

Thanks, ace, I just assumed Texas had their own rules. :)

What's that supposed to stand for anyway, I've never heard of it, just curious.

UIL

I did not realize Texas uses NFHS rules. UIL is part of the UT Austin extension system.
