Haven't really thought about it and actually calling my first few Player Control ("PC") fouls this week, how do you report it? Understanding that the table doesn't really care what signal we use, I know that the offending team wants to know what their player did exactly. I've seen it reported as the PC Mech, but I don't if I'm way off base in reporting as to what they actually did (steer/push off, 'reverse' handcheck, charge, etc.) all of which I used those mechanics to report the PC foul. What do you think???

Player knows what he did. If the coach asks, you could tell him. PC mechanic is all you need. Chances are the coach will know as well. Everyone is watching the ball, so you won't really need to get into detail.

Anything else besides the PC mechanic would be confusing... people would think you called a different foul or changed your mind... or that you are just lost.

It too late to go back through my officials manuals but at one time for both high school and college when a player control foul was reported to the table the reporting official was required to give the type of foul signal (usually the charge/pushing signal) followed by the player control signal. But the type of foul signal requirement was dropped quite some time ago.

Give the standard PC signal, and keep the coach of the offending team in the corner of your eye. If he asks what the player did, give the "charades" version, turn and get to your spot. This way you communicate with the coach, and don't have to argue in words.

Siganl
For those of you that have an evaluator, do they like for you to first raise your hand with an open palm to stop the clock and then give your player control signal or do they allow you to just go with the player control siganl?

Brain Farts R Us
Had a 9th grade girls game earlier this year where I decided to "sell" a pc foul at the table by demonstrating the player's excellent technique for pushing off with the forearm. Both coaches bought it, everybody is happy, I headed off to my new position. Then the table starts buzzing about shooting a 1 and 1. I had to go back and explain to the table that it was a PC and we would not be shooting. Later in the game, my partner does something similar only this time we end up erroneously shooting a 1 and 1 for a PC foul. Bottom line, the PC signal may not communicate the nature of the foul, but not using it may lead to a communication breakdown over the result of the foul.
