Hey TPS, take off the caps lock, will ya? I'm begging you. I don't even read your posts, b/c they hurt my eyes. Don't wanna shift? Fine, go all lower-case. But get rid of the caps. Please.

Not all are that bad. *coughs* Me. *coughs* I work the shot clock for my junior college games. It was late 1st half and team A was driving to the hoop. A1 was trying to pass to A2 but B1 deflected the ball while standing in the lane. The ball made contact with the hoop. No reset. One of the officials stopped play and walked to me asking for a reset. I said that I judged the play to be a pass. I thought we were going to get into an argument, but the referee stepped in, conferred, and agreed with me. Finally, I'm right about something. :D

How many of you in your pregame let the shot clock operator know that if they judge the play to be a pass and not a shot to keep from resetting the clock? In 3 years, I've heard it once. Not to blame you guys, but come on.

Here's my pre-game with the shot clock operator:

"Have you done this before?"

The answer is usually, "Oh about 1,000 times".

"Good, then you get the short version. There's only 4 times we reset the shot clock, ok?

1) Any change of possession. That includes a made basket.
2) Any time the ball hits the rim on a shot. If it's not a shot, don't reset it.
3) Any foul, including any technical fouls.
4) Any kicked ball.

Ok? So if the ball gets batted OOB by the defense, there's no reset. If we have a held ball and the offense keeps the ball, there's no reset. Ok? Questions? Thanks."

I realize that there are a couple exceptions to what I say, but it would just confuse matters to bring them up.

Really I'm not a big jerk most of the time.

I'm the coach, you are the official. Whose team is the timer on: yours or mine?

It's not a pet peeve. It's simply discussion board protocol. :)
