With a two-man crew working the game, which Official is responsible for watching the flight of the ball as a shot bounces high off the rim ?

Several times this year, the ball has bounced off the rim and clearly contacted cables/straps used to pull up and put away the basket/backboard structure, but no call. It was obvious that the Official just did not see it, although most everyone else did.

Is watching the flight of the ball above the rim a responsibility assigned to a particular Official?

That is the responsibility of the trail official in a two-man crew. Obviously, the lead isn't going to be able to see if the ball hits the cable from his position on the endline.
