Elbow pads are legal under both NFHS and NCAA rules.

mark, the reason i asked was a coach friend of mine plays a team that has a player who wears an elbow pad that really uses it to there advantage to gain inside position( not alot of help with officiating, league will use anyone to officiate)anyway rule 3.5.1 is not real clear to me, is a elbow pad not considered a brace? thanks for your input.

Elbow and knee pads have always been legal. The player you describe would be doing the things he is doing whether he wore and elbow pad or not. The elbow pad itself does not give him an advantage.
