Hi,

Thanks for the feedback from my last post. I thought it would be interesting to hear what you feel your biggest weakness as an official is. I figure since we are all humans coaches, players and officials, that we all make mistakes. Well, some fans don't think that either us coaches or you officials are humans but that is a different story:) As an observer during a game as the coach it seems to me a lot of officials anticipate a play happening and then blow the whistle before the infraction they believe is going to occur happens. Do you have a habit of doing that believing an infraction is going to occur and then calling it no matter what? Look forward to your feedback? And if I'm not clear in my question please let me know and I will explain myself further.

Talking to coaches!

Sometimes we are percieved as turds because a)we don't say anything, other times, b)we say the wrong thing, c) we say the right thing but in the wrong way, or d) we say the truth, which is not what he wants to hear.

I never know if I should say anything or not!!!

My biggest mistake is thinking the coaches know more then they do.

I am trying to work on keeping my focus off-ball this year when the ball isn't in my primary. Funny, because I had an evaluator tell me I was ball watching too much. Funny also, because in that same game my partner called "over the back" from T position on a play right in front of me on the baseline. Regardless, I know that's a problem of mine, especially when I'm T. It's much easier to stay off ball as L, when there's more off ball action in your primary.
Another weakness I have as T is not getting low enough; and I drift back on shots instead of towards the block. I'm also, for some reason, having a difficult time juding contact in the backcourt. Basically, I need to work on being a better Trail.

I agree!!!

I strive to do my best every game, whatever the level of play, because it is the most important game for the players (and me). My most frustrating issue as an official is maintaining an awareness of "bonus" situation. This is more difficult in games at the lower levels because they often have inexperienced scorers and scoreboards that do not display team foul totals.

The thing I'm working on at the moment is to have full control of my whistle and not make calls from instinct, or pass what needs to be called, because of not concentrating. Conscious attention to the play at hand. That's what I'm working on.

That and losing another 10 pounds or so.

The quest to continue to sharpen my communication skills.

I admire those who, by their ability to communicate so effectively with a wide range of individuals, are able to maintain control in every situation. Because I don't yet consider myself in that catagory, I consider this a more prominent weakness. But I feel I am daily gaining ground on this goal--and take consolation in that.

Trail in backcourt...

Offball as trail... moving around more for better angles on lead...

Making my mechanics look crisp and sharp as well as moving more(as needed) whether trail or lead. That has been mentioned to me too many times in December by evaluators.

Traveling is my biggest weakness. I know what it is by rule, but I don't look to see their pivot foot. I am more concerned about the defense and if they are doing anything illegal.
