Situation: The score is tied and A1 takes a jump shot before times expired on the clock. There is contact by B1 clearly after the ball has left A1's hand. Do you call the foul or do you allow the game to go into overtime.

I would call a foul only if the contact was made prior to the release of the ball or if I ruled the foul was intentional or flagrant, otherwise I would leave it alone. Can anyone give me some insight into the situation and how they would handle it?

If he's airborne and he's fouled, you call it. Why wouldn't you call it? Would you have called it if they same play happened 5 minutes earlier?

You have to follow the shooter all the way up and all the way down. If the foul occured on a shooter then you must call the foul regardless of time on the clock.

I agree with BktBallRef and tomegun. However, it will have to be obvious to someone in the 30th row. i.e. no ticky tack fouls.

If the foul occurs before the horn you have to call it.

My question: If the foul occurs after the horn is it a foul?

If it is an airborn shooter and the foul cannot be ignored it must be called until the shooter returns to the floor.

The horn does not end the play. The play ends when the shooter returns to the floor and the shot ends, i.e. ball becomes dead.

My thought: It had better be a foul that is obvious to everyone. There is nothing worse than a last second heave going up and the official bailing out the shooter by calling a ticky-tack foul.

Rich, I don't think the question was about the severity of the foul. I could have misunderstood the question by ugr001, but i think he wanted to know when the game was over. i.e. is it possible to have a foul after the horn.
