In a 6th grade tournament I recently reffed, a girl was wearing volleyball style knee pads. NFHS rule 3-5 states that "knee and ankle BRACES are allowed.." I allowed the knee pads because they created no advantage/disadvantage and the girl was 6'1 53 pounds and probably needed them. How do you interpret the rule?

Legal.

I do not think that R3-S5 has anything to do with knee pads. All one has to do is look at pictures of some of the earliest teams to play the game and one will see that everybody wore knee pads.

I hope this is an exaggeration, or a typo. I can't imagine a human being alive at this proportion, much less playing basketball.

6'1 53 lb female sounds like what some folks call "supermodel" these days.

Dan -- I know you're just joking, and I'm not offended, but I really can't laugh. The ravages of the various "thin end" eating disorders are very difficult to overcome, and can be permanently damaging. It's only tragic and never to be taken lightly. Except for a very, very few very short women, the word "super" should never be applied to any adult weight under 100 pounds. It's just not healthy.

It was not meant as a joke, I agree it's a serious problem and what's being promoted as the "ideal" female body type these days borders on criminal.
