My son-in-law, David, just started working HS ball this season. He joined the association in his part of the state (Salem, Oregon). He worked rec ball for the past 6 years, and decided he wanted to move up.

He's getting a few middle school games, but mostly freshman and even a few JV (girls). Not too bad for his first year in the group.

Anyway, I spoke with him after his first two weeks of games. His first sentence was "Boy - some of these coaches really don't know the rules".

I walked into a coaches office this week and saw a sight on his desk that I haven't seen on any desk in my seven years officiating. A rule book. And the kids in the office were actually looking at it!!!!!

And could they read?!
